今年35歲的布蘭切特1992年畢業于澳大利亞國立藝術戲劇學校，畢業后主要從事各類戲劇演出，其中以莎士比亞名劇居多。
舞臺劇的功底加上與生俱來的表演天賦，使她順利進入電影界并很快贏得了影評人和觀眾的認可。
長相與梅麗爾·斯特里普頗有幾分相似的布蘭切特冷艷高貴，被認為是當今影壇“最具貴族氣質的女演員”。
1998年，著名導演沙哈·卡帕邀請布蘭切特在歷史影片《伊麗莎白》中扮演英國女王。
伊麗莎白是一個非常容易出彩的角色，電影史上有不少著名女星都因為這個角色獲得了巨大的成功。
導演卡帕認為，雖然布蘭切特當時還是個新人，但她戲路多變的潛質足以勝任任何復雜的角色。
她扮演的伊麗莎白外形纖秀，透著歷史滄桑，但內心充滿勇氣和力量，讓觀眾倍感親切。
由于這一角色的巨大成功，布蘭切特1999年曾獲得奧斯卡最佳女演員提名，以及當年金球獎劇情類的最佳女主角。

近年因在《指環王》三部曲中的出色表現，布蘭切特不斷成為全世界影迷關注的焦點，而2004年在傳記大片《飛行者》中，布蘭切特更是傳神地飾演了奧斯卡歷史上獲獎最多的影壇“女王”赫本，再現了赫本在演藝生涯黃金時代與億萬富翁休斯的那段情緣。
她逼真的表演為影片增色不少，這部由馬丁·斯科塞斯在本屆奧斯卡獎上共得到11項提名，包括最佳影片和最佳導演獎的提名。
據說當初《飛行者》劇組找到布蘭切特時，由于擔心演不好影迷們十分熟悉的赫本，她曾一口回絕。
最后導演斯科塞斯親自出馬，告訴她扮演名人并一定要在乎外形的酷似，重要的是神似和內涵，這才打消了她的疑慮。
布蘭切特在發表獲獎感言時對斯科塞斯的“提攜”表示感謝，并開玩笑說希望自己的兒子將來能娶斯科塞斯的女兒。
